TiE Delhi-NCR Hosts Women Entrepreneurship Summit 2017 – New Horizons

New Delhi, July 14th 2017: With a view to highlight the burgeoning potential of women in Indian entrepreneurship sector, TiE Delhi-NCR, the world’s largest network of successful entrepreneurs and professionals hosted the fourth edition of Women Entrepreneurship: New Horizons 2017 today, at Welcome Hotel Sheraton, Saket in the capital. The conference saw participation from over 100 delegates and dignitaries brought together to enlighten and share insights from the current gender deficit model.

Geetika Dayal, Executive, Director, TiE Delhi-NCR addressed the audience with her compelling words, “A major problem with India’s labor force is that women are missing; we need more women entrepreneurs because every female talent wasted holds a great corresponding economic loss to our nation. Women employers tend to employ a significantly greater number of women as compared to their male counterparts which is the encouragement we are looking to induce with this special interest group initiative – New Horizons 2017.”

The event kick started with a Welcome Note by Dr. Shikha Sharma – Managing Director, NutriHealth sharing insights on the aspirations women nurture in today’s world and the healthcare sectors potential for female participation. This was followed by a session of Pramod Bhasin, Founder, Genpact & Chairman, Clix Capital who laid emphasis on “Zero Tolerance” when it comes to women’s rights and frights. 

Pallavi Rao, Group Head, Programming and CSR, Radio Mirchi and Rahul Narvekar, Founder & CEO, The India Network & Scale Ventures Fund, discussed their journey of courage, endurance, love and life as a power couple in the session “The Spirit to Fight”. The day also witnessed live expert advice in the session “Learn as you Pitch: Challenges Resolved Live” by Uma Arora, Chief Facilitator & CEO, Idam Learning, Vibuthi Channa, Director, Viridian Ventures, Rimy Oberoi, Director, Oyster Learning and Shweta Singh, Vice President, Lumis Partners. 

Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Vice Chairman, Naukri.com (Chair), in conversation with Bala Deshpande, Senior Managing Director, New Enterprise Associates shed light on the numerous opportunities for women entrepreneurs in the Indian market. The summit continued with discussions on Managing Networking and Visibility from various successful industry women entrepreneurs and successfully ended with a mentoring round table talking about the success of Women around the globe.

A recent industry study revealed that at least four out of five women in India would like to start a business; yet, only nine per cent of Indian founders or co-founders are women. ‘Women Business Ownership’ index of Women Entrepreneurs recently ranked the Indian subcontinent among the lowest, at the 49th rank amongst 54 economies evaluated globally. The conference discussed success stories, challenges, opportunities and the sector’s potential with eminent participation from the Delhi-NCR network.
